Sometimes as I go about my everyday business it is possible to forget the significance of the place names I see around. Road signs to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth and the Galilee are everywhere and to see them written on mere motorway road signs sometimes makes me jump. How can these places, almost myths, be real and the subject of a lowly piece of street furniture? Today I followed these signs, taking the road to Jerusalem and then to Bethlehem. My mission was to bring back olive wood Christmas decorations for a charity winter fair I am hosting. As I drove past the Old City of Jerusalem - the site of the Western Wall, Al Aqsa Mosque and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, on my way to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem I was struck by the significance of it all. So much significance, to so many people, in such a small area, it's almost too much to bear!
